KBIS Features the DeKauri Modern Bathroom Credenza

Cosentino, the global leader in the production and distribution of architectural surfaces, and Italian furniture manufacturer Riva 1920 together introduce DeKauri, a modern bathroom credenza, designed in collaboration with renowned architect and designer Daniel Germani. DeKauri redefines innovation and clever design featuring ancient wood, aged and preserved in peatlands for thousands of years. “DeKauri transforms incredibly utilitarian parts of the bath into something incredibly beautiful. It helps take away the feeling of being in a bathroom. I could very easily see this in a master suite, a power room, or even in an open-concept bedroom where the sleeping space and bath flow into one another,” says Germani.

A perfect marriage of traditional and contemporary, old and new. The grains of this beautiful Kauri wood are rich with history and predate more than what we can comprehend as prehistoric. The wood was discovered in Oakland, New Zealand perfectly preserved and sealed off from damaging elements like humidity, explains Maurizio Riva, from Riva 1920. Available in two versions, DeKauri can be showcased as a monochromatic piece or a multi-colored statement that emphasizes the geometric slabs pieced together to create grandeur.

The design was birthed by the desire to create a compact bathroom space that could expand upon using, with the ability to tuck away when finished. The end result? A sleek and refined credenza by day, a modern vanity area by night (or morning).  “When it comes to the kitchen there are ingenious, innovative design solutions to hide and store everything,” Germani says. “But that’s not always the case in the bathroom. I realized bathroom storage has at its core remained the same.”

Upon opening the beautifully-crafted wooden doors, the interior showcases ultra-slim LED lighting by Juniper. The THIN Surface Mount, available in a variety of standoff heights exudes versatility, from modern vanity lighting, to picture lighting and under-cabinet or shelf lighting. Our Ground Control Toggle Switch pairs seamlessly with the contemporary lighting design to reflect on vintage 20th-century aesthetics. Our genuine brass construction and warm, saturated metal finishing match the unquestionable quality of the credenza in which it sits.

The washbasin was creatively crafted from Dekton® by Cosentino, pairing perfectly with a central mirror and shelving within the interior walls. With brass hardware from Fantini Rubinetti above the ceramic basin to match the stunning vanity lighting, each detail of this design was carefully curated and crafted with only the highest standards in mind.
